Standardisation
The continued development of new products and the transition to a sustainable society requires new technologies and materials. For these to be widely established in industry, standards are needed. At Chalmers Industriteknik, we therefore focus on innovations and take an active role in standardisation.

Standards for innovation build trust and interoperability
Standardisation is a powerful tool for business competitiveness and innovation. Standards help open up markets, allow consumers to compare offers and ensure quality and functionality.
Standards are particularly important at the interface between different technologies and between different organisations to ensure trust and guarantee interoperability. This is particularly critical for new innovations that are too young to have an established quality stamp.
Much of the development of new ideas towards products is now done within SMEs. However, they often have to focus more directly on the development of the company and the technology. As it can also be time-consuming and complicated to get to grips with the standardisation process, this is often de-prioritised even if the importance is recognised.
At Chalmers Industriteknik, we run several standardisation initiatives, with a particular focus on nanotechnology, graphene and 2D materials, digital product passports and quantum technology. We help both individual companies and work with the development of entire sectors to increase Swedish competitiveness.
