Sustainable chemistry

Chalmers Industrial Technology works with sustainable chemistry to promote efficient use of resources and to reduce pollution, hazardous substances, energy consumption and waste.

Development of sustainable chemical production

Sustainable chemistry, or green chemistry, is a broad term used for the design and development of chemical processes and products with the goal of minimizing negative environmental impact while maximizing societal and economic benefits. Several of us at Chalmers Industriteknik have a background as chemists or chemical engineers and work in projects on sustainable chemistry together with industry. This means that the aim is to promote an efficient use of resources and to reduce pollution, hazardous substances, energy consumption and waste. At the same time, this leads to direct financial benefits and increased competitiveness for the companies we work with.

In previous projects we have worked with the paint industry, companies that develop products with PVC and plasticizers, companies that develop ceramics for various applications and the food industry.
