Graphene Electronics Near Tipping Point: Industry Collaboration Crucial for Commercialisation

An article on commercialization of graphene electronics by Kari Hjelt from Chalmers Industriteknik together with Henning Döscher, Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, got published today in Springer Nature Electronics!
”Graphene is celebrating 20 years, but still needs bridging from science to real commercialization. We are by no means done and I sense a tipping point close around the corner. Now, we require industry collaboration more than ever”, says Kari Hjelt.
Key highlights from publication:
- Graphene’s potential in electronics is immense, yet challenges in scale-up and industrialization remain.
- A strategic roadmap process guides the transition from lab to commercial applications.
- Industry collaboration is vital, as evidenced by the increase of industrial partners in the Graphene Flagship that went from 30% in 2013 to 46% in 2022.
Despite the challenges, the graphene market is projected to grow significantly, with a potential size of US$1.5 billion by 2027.
Bridging the gap between research and industry is crucial.
