Collaborative and cross-sectoral solutions for the energy and climate transition of the transport system

The project develops scenarios and solutions for a sustainable transport system through enhanced collaboration between urban planning, energy and transport sectors.
Although energy and transport are tightly connected through infrastructure, planning and optimization remain fragmented. Meeting climate challenges requires a coordinated approach to investments in energy planning, network development, physical planning and transport systems.
This project develops a long-term vision for a sustainable transport system where all modes of transport are integrated, resource-efficient and intelligent. Through interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers, business and public actors, scenarios are developed that show possible paths towards a fossil-free and transport-efficient society.
In close dialogue with Region Örebro County, the backcasting method is used to identify concrete goals and indicators for the transition at the regional level. The project also generates innovative solutions, which are tested and analyzed using the modeling tool developed by Chalmers Industriteknik.
The project will generate and evaluate integrated solutions that contribute to a transport system that is sustainable, fair and robust. By combining technical innovation with a systems perspective and stakeholder collaboration, knowledge and tools are created that can reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency and make the transport system accessible to all groups in society.
Chalmers Industriteknik is the work package leader for two work packages: collaborative scenario generation and goals, development of metrics and cross-sector modelling.
The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency. The collaboration is with Trivector, the 2030 Secretariat, Energiforsk and Region Örebro County.
