Climate footprint reduction, Sustainable E-Commerce with AI Technology
In Sweden, around 40 million shoes are sold annually, of which a third are online. Despite this, 30% of these shoes, equivalent to 4 million pairs, are returned due to sizing issues. In this project deals with developing an innovative AI based solution that virtually ensure the fit, without the customer having to try them on physically. In that way, returns are decreased, customer satisfaction increases, and leads to more sustainable consumption.
The project focuses on developing cutting-edge technology that combines advanced 3D foot modeling and AI to solve shoe sizing issues. Using images taken with a smartphone, the system generates a personalized 3D avatar of the user’s foot, which is then matched with the internal measurements of available shoes to ensure a precise fit. The AI model continuously improves its accuracy, making it scalable and adaptable to different shoe styles, brands, and categories. In addition, the project outcome will help support sustainability by reducing returns, decreasing overproduction, and lowering transport emissions, which is in line with SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production).
