Chemistry and other STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) are crucial for Sweden’s societal development and future competitiveness. According to the Swedish government’s STEM strategy, the demand for skills in these fields is extensive, and more trained professionals are needed at the university and research levels as well as within vocational education and training and upper‑secondary school.
In the project “Chemistry and Interdisciplinarity for Everyone!”, our aim is to highlight research in the natural sciences—particularly chemistry—and make it accessible for teaching in upper‑secondary education.
Chalmers Industriteknik contributes expertise in chemistry, natural sciences, and research utilization. Together, we develop knowledge‑enhancing methods and carry out initiatives that strengthen Chalmers’ utilization efforts, chemistry and STEM education in upper‑secondary schools and Universeum’s work in creating learning environments that stimulate creativity, innovation, and critical thinking.
Universeum is a science center in Gothenburg where science, technology, and sustainable development intersect through interactive exhibitions, aquariums and experimental environments. Its mission is to inspire children, young people, and adults to learn and stay curious within STEM fields, and to contribute to a sustainable future.
The project runs from 2025 to 2028 and is carried out on behalf of Chalmers University of Technology and Universeum. The work is led by Marie Palmnäs, PhD, project manager in circular economy at Chalmers Industriteknik, together with Hanna Ulmefors, Jonna Hynynen och Maria Pettersson, and other experts in chemistry and STEM.
