SIO Grafen

SIO Grafen is the innovation program that puts 2D materials to real use in society. We at Chalmers Industriteknik host the program, ensuring that 2D materials remain a competitive area of strength for Swedish industry. We are also an active participant in many of SIO Grafen’s projects.

Graphene is the groundbreaking material that received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010. Since 2014, SIO Grafen has been working actively to develop and meet the needs of the Swedish ecosystem for graphene and other 2D materials. So far, over 250 organizations and 120 SMEs have participated in projects where new innovations have come to life with the help of 2D materials.

2D materials can be used in biotechnology and electronics to healthcare and art conservation. Through their ability to make other materials lighter, stronger and more sustainable, we see the use of 2D materials as a given path towards sustainable transition.

SIO Grafen is one of Sweden’s 17 strategic innovation programs and is funded by Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas.
