ZEBRA – Integrating Sustainable Zinc-Ion Batteries into Future Energy Storage Systems
ZEBRA is a research and innovation project developing next-generation stationary energy storage solutions based on sustainable, water-based zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) as an alternative to lithium-ion battery (LiB) technologies. The project addresses the entire value chain – from materials development and battery production to system integration and operation in real-world environments.
The overarching aim of the project is to enable reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy storage to support the transition towards a more flexible and stable energy system. By developing and demonstrating zinc-ion batteries in stationary energy storage systems (SESS), ZEBRA lays the groundwork for increased utilisation of renewable energy sources.
