Claes heads a group that leads and develops innovation programmes, clusters, competence centres and research infrastructures in a number of technology areas, including road safety, shipping, nanotechnology, quantum technology, life science, medical technology and energy. In the field of energy, he is particularly responsible for the Chalmers Industrial Technology Foundation’s portfolio of innovative collaborative projects that contribute to the transition towards a sustainable energy system, where innovation and collaboration between different actors are at the centre.
Claes has previously worked as COO of Johanneberg Science Park, where he was responsible for the project portfolio in energy and urban planning. Prior to that, he was R&D strategist at Göteborg Energi, responsible for coordinating the company’s joint research and development portfolio. Claes has also been a senior project manager at Göteborg Energi focusing on renewable energy production plants.
Claes holds a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering with specialisation in Energy and Environment from Chalmers University of Technology.
