Relight – Sustainable recycling of lighting products
The aim of the project is to test and develop new techniques for a sustainable recycling of compact fluorescent lamps containing mercury by processing the wastein a cost and environmentally efficient manner, and thereby increasing the value of the recycled materials.
Compact fluorescent lamps contain mercury, which is a hazardous substance, and releasing it into the environment must be avoided. It is also of uttermost importance to recycle the valuable and in some cases critical materials which are found in the lamps.
The project intends to identify what type and size of investments that are required to obtain a process equipment which can transform disposed compact fluorescent lamps to pure and high-valued fractions of materials, such as glass, plastic, metals and phosphorous powder.
This two-year project ended in December 2014.
