Bulletproof shields

Bullet-proofness is one of the most demanding applications, which requires cutting edge properties of ingoing materials. A feasibility study that has been conducted, showed that it is possible to produce composites of PC with graphene, and that graphen has a very positive influence on the mechanical properties. During the preliminary study, preliminary tests were carried out on sandwich constructions, where bullet-proofness could be found.

Project goals

The project will manufacture Sainpro’s unique and patented shield with graphene added to the material. The goal is to achieve global ballistic protection standard NIJ Standard III, and European protection standard WPAM 6.

If the project succeeds, graphene will be able to be used in many other different products that have requirements for bullet-proofness, but also in a myriad of other products, such as for example in the automotive industry.

Chalmers Industriteknik contributes with graphene expertise and, together with Chalmers, will evaluate the mechanical properties of the composites.
